History

Description

La Cueva de Ben Loman is a karst cave with Maya remains like pottery. Numerous tour operators lead parties to the cave, which is described as being easy. It is located on the northwest shore of the Southern Lagoon, inside one of the limestone foothills which reach upward from the flat floor of the savanna. It is noted for its stalagmite and stalactite formations.

To reach the cave it is necessary to cross the Southern lagoon with a short boat ride and walk 15 minutes over pine savannah. The lagoons here are known for a large population of Manatee which may be seen on the boat trip. There are also Manatee Watch tours offered.
