History

Description

How Stean Gorge is a 1 km long limestone gorge with up to 20 m high vertical walls. The gorge is used by an extreme sports company for various activities like climbing, canyoning and a via ferrata. The How Stean Experience takes three hours and includes abseil, gorge walk and zip line. Renting of all equipment and a video of the tour on DVD are included.

Fortunately there is no need to participate at those sportive activities. Regular visitors just walk the gorge on the well maintained trails, with its cliffs and caves. To have a look into one or the other cave it is a good idea to bring a torch. It is even possible to use the via ferrata with personal gear and without guide. Cavers and mountaineers are welcome.

The gorge and the cave are on private ground and there is an entrance fee. Drive to the huge parking lot and go to the visitor center and cafe first. There are trails along the gorge and if you have basic caving equipment you can vist both on your own. The operators also offer a wide spectrum of caving and canyoning trips, and there is a via ferrata. For the gorge we recommend sturdy boots or walking shoes.
