History

Description

The Etruskan underground tomb called Tomba Francois is one of the biggest and most elaborate such tombs. Entered through a 27 m long dromos, the characteristic entrance canal, the first enlarged chamber is reached. It has a side chamber to both sides, and the entrance to the main grave is in front. Now follows a central atrium called hypogeum in the shape of the letter T. Various smaller chambers branch off, three on each side and the most important one - the principal tablinium chamber - in the middle.
