History

Description

Finnforsrövarnas grotta is small tectonic cave with an old legend. It is rater easy to visit, although it is necessary to crawl. Bring a torch, old clothes, and sturdy boots.

The cave is located in the Finnforsberget, the robbers mountain. According to legend the herdsmaid Gunilla disappeared from her home in the early 16th century. She came back after three years and told that she was captured by the robbers in a cave in Finnforsberget mountain. In front of the cave is flat rock on which Gunilla had to dance for the robbers. Despite the legend, there is evidence that there really were robbers. Old documents from court mentioning the robbers exist, but the story of Gunilla is not in the documents.
