History

Description

Beulah Mine supplies lignite to the 427 MW Coyote Station and the two-unit 75 MW Heskett Station. It produces approximately 3.0 million tons of lignite annually from three active pits. Heskett Station, located 120 km away, is supplied by railroad, the mine is connected to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad's Stanton line by a 6 km long rail spur it owns. The area is called the powerbelt, because lignite is mined in a belt for the production of electric power. The mine is owned and operated by the Dakota Westmoreland Corporation, Beulah, ND.
