History

1907 work stopped on unfinished tunnel.

Geology

Description

Hard Tack Mine was created by employees of the Hidden Treasure Mine Co. It was planned as a transport tunnel for the Hidden Treasure mine located 400m up the mountain. But mining accidents stoppe the work and the tunnel remained unfinished.

The tunnel is located at Treasure City or Treasureville, named after Hidden Treasure mine. It is a collection of shacks and buildings connected with the mining. Between 1890 and 1930 it was a bustling little community, while the mine produced silver ore. There were a mill, mine offices, a bank, boarding houses, and a commissary. The schoolhouse for the miners children was 2 km up the road at the Ute - Ulay Lake City Mines.
