Description

The Lomax Placer Mine was a hydraulic placer mining operation near downtown Breckenridge. They used hydraulic mining techniques, washing loose, unconsolidated gravels through placer mining equipment with high capacity water hoses. On an area of 2 ha the complete collection of equipment used in such a hydraulic mining operation is demonstrated.

The visit to Lomax mine includes the surface operation, typical placer mining equipment, a bachelor miner's cabin, the chemists equipment for assaying the ore content, and a slide show with historic photographs. The miner's cabin is complete with stove, musical instruments, snowshoes, actual furniture and utensils.
