Grjótagjá is a small cave with a thermal spring inside. This place was a popular bathing site until the seventies. During the eruptions from 1975 to 1984 the the temperature of the water rose and today bathing is not possible any more. But the temperature is slowly sinking, and it is possible that the place will be used for bathing in a few years.

The water in the cave is very hot, about 50°C, but it is still possible to visit the cave. Just be very carefull not to fall into the water, as this could be lethal.
