The Wallonië (Wallonia) is the southern part of Belgium bordering France, Luxembourg. and Germany. This region is French speaking.

It is hill country with interesting geologic formations, as it is the remains of an old mountain ridge named the Ardennes. Several parts of this area are made of karstified limestone, which is heavily folded. The bedding planes are sometimes even upside down, turned over by the tectonic forces. And because of frequent ore deposits, there are many mines too.
