The northwesternmost province of Bulgaria borders Serbia to the west and Romania to the northeast. The border to Romania is the Danube, parts of the Danubian Plain are part of the province. The rest is the northern or western end of Стара Планина (Stara Planina) or Balkan Mountains. This mountain range along the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula begins at the Vrashka Chuka Peak on the Bulgarian-Serbian border. It runs southeast, the turns east and extends to the Blacks sea. It forms a sort of divide between northern and central Bulgaria.
