Hong Kong is part of China and located on the southern coast just south of Shenzhen. Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories have a size of about 1,100 km² with a population of 7.5 Million, which makes it the fourth-most densely populated region in the world. Established as a colony of the British Empire after the Qing dynasty ceded Hong Kong Island, it was managed by the United Kingdom until it was handed over to China in 1997.
As any city it has vast underground structures, which were constructed over the centuries for various purposes. Unfortunately there are no tourist sites among them, except for a recently discovered cistern. The geology is basically tropical karst, but again, there are no tourist caves
