SKOCJANSKE JAME 1920-1940 by T R Shaw 185 pp, 139 illus.
Škocjan Caves have a rich history. This book deals only with a relatively short time between the two world wars when Austria surrendered the region to Italy. Most of the Škocjan caves were explored before 1914, and the main goal of the cave was to develop into a tourist attraction. The caves were visited earlier, and in the 20 th and 30 th
years they tried to arrange the tourist routes through the caves, new bridges and paths, but also a new tunnel to the surface. In order to bring all this into line with the Italian laws, it caused problems, so they were delayed by opening until 1923. The caves were further explored, measured and published by scientific discussions. They also
reported a little-known fatal accident. Throughout the entire period, individual guides, researchers and administrators wrote a very human and exciting story. What makes the book particularly important, SB In ENGLISH!!! £30.00
