Manipur

Manipur is a State of India, which is located to the far north east. It is bounded by the Indian states of Nagaland to the north, Mizoram to the south and Assam to the west. The state covers some 8,600 km² and the capital is Imphal.

To the east lies the boundary to Myanmar, which is why the state is considered a sensitive border state. Foreigners need a Restricted Area Permit, which are valid for only 10 days. Individual tourism is not allowed, visitors must fly to Imphal to enter the state, and may leave the capital only on tours arranged by authorised travel agents.
