Catania

The city of Catania on the island Sicilia is located on the eastern coast, south of the volcano Mt. Etna. Here is the border between the volcanic ashes and lava steams of the volcano, and the karst areas to the southwest. The underground is covered by lavaflows which happened during the Middle Ages, the city had to be rebuilt several times. The listed cave is actually a canal which was covered by a lava flow, so it is actually half artificial. Actually, all the sites are more or less a result of human intervention during the last two millennia.
