Jeollanam-do

South Jeolla Province - Jeonnam Province

Jeollanam-do (South Jeolla Province) is part of the Honam region. It is bounded on the west by the Yellow Sea, on the north by North Jeolla Province, on the south by Jeju Strait, and on the east by South Gyeongsang Province.

The province is partially mountainous, but most of it are plains along the rivers Seomjin, Yeongsan and Tamjin. The abundant rainfall, the temperature, and the fertile soil make this province the granary of South Korea. It produces large amounts of rice, wheat, barley, pulses and potatoes. Vegetables, cotton and fruits are also grown in the province.

But South Jeolla is also leading in South Korea for some marine products, e.g. oyster and seeweed. The coastline is about 6,100 km long, with almost 2,000 islands along the coastline. Only 25% of these islands are inhabited.
