The Rodopes are an east-west running mountain range at the southern border of Bulgaria to Greece. The ridges consist of limestones, mostly marbles, which are karstified. There are caves all over this mountain ridge, both in Bulgaria and Greece. The central part of the bulgarian Rodopes is located in Smolyan Province.
