History

Description

The Дяволския мост (Dyavolski Most, Devils Bridge) is named after the devil like so many karst related features in the area. Probably a sign that they are really spectacular: there is a legend which says that only the devil can cross the bridge. However, although there is no official path, there is a rather wild trail across the bridge.

This natural bridge is a remnant of a former cave, which is almost completely collapsed and eroded. Actually the valley itself is a so-called roofless cave. Only this small part of the cave ceiling remains.

The bridge is located in a side valley of the Buynovsko gorge, it can only be reached on foot. The easiest way to reach it is from Borino. Take road 197 west, at the city limits turn south on a small country road. After 2.5 km there is a sort of abandoned village with a huge paved parking lot. There is a museum called Музей на катрана (Tar Museum), dedicated to the production of tar from pine trees. From here it is a pleasant walk to the bridge of less than 2 km (30 minutes). The bridge is signposted with handwritten signs. The trail is called Ecopath "Devils Path".

If you want to visit a cave you might go to Тебеширената пещера (Tessera Cave), which is located about 700 m walk up the hill to the south, 200 m higher. The cave is also part of the eco trail, rather small, horizontal, and easy to visit.
