Fujian

Fujian province is located in southeastern China is according to tradition "eight parts mountain, one part water, and one part farmland". The highest mountain is Mount Huanggang (2,157 m asl) in the Wuyi Mountains. The geology is basically a collision of the Asiatic Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate. There is a high probabilities of earthquakes. The geology is not really suitable for cave formation as there are no large limestone area, most of the rocks are sandstones and conglomerates. Nevertheless, the erosion sometimes forms quite similar landforms which are called pseudo-karst. So, despite being in the optimal climate zone for spectacular karst structures, and despite numerous regions resembling tower karst, this province is extremely rare in underground sites. On the other side the three listed show caves are quite exceptional.
