Yeren - Ape Men - Savages

The 野人 (yeren) are cryptid apemen reported to inhabit remote, mountainous regions of China. So there are the translations Wild Men as well as Savages. Sightings of "hairy men" happened between the 4th century BC and the 10th century AD, most of them during the Warring States Period and again during the Tang dynasty. The Xinhua News Agency has recorded over 400 yeren sightings in the last century. So this legend is based on repeated sightings and has now solidified into the modern legend of the yeren, which is comparable to the bigfoot legends. The yeren is tall, hairy, and all photographs are blurry.

All research on the topic failed, evidence like bodies, bones, hairs, and footprints were from various known animals, including humans, Himalayan brown bears, Tibetan blue bears, Asian black bears, macaques, goral, and serow. Children with the spinocerebellar ataxia disease were wrongly called yeren/human hybrids.

Most sightings were reported from the Shennongjia Forestry District in the Hubei Province. Hubei capitalizes on the legends to attract tourists to remote villages within the province.

So why do we explain this legend? Because there are numerous 野人洞 (Yěrén dòng, Wild Man Cave) in China, and they also capitalize on the legends. They often have decoration, the artificial ones, not speleothems, which are remains of yeren who lived in the cave. while caves with identical name
