New Valley Governorate - Muḥāfaẓah al Wādī al Jadīd - El Wadi El Gedid Governorate

New Valley Governorate or El Wadi El Gedid Governorate is in the southwestern part of the country, in the south of Egypt Western Desert. It is part of the Sahara Desert, but despite having roughly half of Egypt's area, it is also the most sparsely populated part of the country. The capital is at the Kharga Oasis. The name is derived from the New Valley Project, which aims to irrigate parts of the Western Desert. Probably the most important site of the region is the Gilf Kebir with its archaeological remains.
