In most religions of the world, there is a hell, a place where evil people are punished, and which is preferably to be sought underground. In some religions, the afterlife is generally the underworld. And since this otherworld is under our feet, there must have been an entrance. Somehow the dead have to get there. And so there were always places that were considered to be the entrance to hell or the underworld. Logically these were preferentially caves or also artificial hollow spaces. We have therefore looked around on showcaves.com and compiled a list of sights that were or are considered the entrance to hell, the underworld, or the afterlife. Not listed is Sunnydale, California, for obvious reasons.
