The Veszprém County is the area north of Lake Balaton. Most of the Bakony hills, which run almost from Budapest to the Slovenian border, are partly karstified and have caves, also there are resources which were mined. The interesting sites are located just north of lake Balaton and part of Veszprém County. They are part of the Balaton-felvidéki Nemzeti Park (Balaton Uplands National Park) and the Bakony–Balaton Geopark.
Beneath the limestone areas with karst caves, there are quartziferous sandstones and conglomerates, and basaltic rocks, with 147 non-karstic caves and 35 artificial cavities. 56 caves in basalt were formed as
