The Departamento de Huánuco is a landlocked department in central Peru named after the capital city Huánuco. While it has arough topography between 167 m and 3,839 m asl, it has a mild weather with an average annual temperature of 20 °C. The oldast humans remains, the Hombre de Lauricocha (Man of Lauricocha) dating from 10,000 BC and the oldest settlement in the Americas, Kotosh 4,200 BC, are here.
