Surigao and Agusan provinces are mostly covered by limestone, which is karstified. Particularly at the towns of San Agustin, Tagbina, Lianga, Rosario, and Bislig many caves are found. At the moment we know of no regular cave trekking operator or cave which is visited on a regular basis. Nevertheless there are caving activities and with increasing tourism cave trekking offers will increase too.

It the area of the towns of Tagbina and Bislig, Japanese cavers explore Banbow Cave (6th longest cave in the Philippines) and Tatol Cave (9th longest cave in the Philippines). Some of the most frequently visited and accessible caves in the region are in Surigao City Buenavista Cave and Silop Cave are explored, and Libas Cave in Jabonga-Agusan del Norte.
