The State of Mérida is located in the Western Andean Region, which is the northern end of the Andes mountain range. The three states Merida, Tachira and Trujillohis are located in this mountainous region. Merida is the highest state of Venezuela, with altitudes above 4,000 m asl. The highest mountain of the state and the country is Pico Bolivar (4,970 m asl).
