The Republic of Lithuania is located in northeast Europe, on the southeastern shore of the Baltic Sea. Located between Latvia to the north and Belarus to the south it also shares a border with Russia. The capital is Vilnius, the population some 3.4 million, official language is Lithuanian. The country is member state of the European Union since 2004.
The Lithuanian landscape is a result of the Ice Ages. the country is flat, covered by moraines, even the western uplands and eastern highlands are below 300 meters and consist of moraines. There is little karstification and as far as we know one single known cave, which is quite tiny. Also, there is little mining, a single iron ore mine and some kaolinite and other quarries. Extraordinary is the mining of amber, which is found in the klasts of the moraines. However, pretty bad preconditions for underground sites even artificial ones.
