Southern Region


Suðurland (Southern Land) is the part of iceland which is most popular among tourists, because it has numerous interesting spots and there is a rather good infrastructure. It has glaciers, volcanoes, geysers, waterfalls, and many other natural wonders. The western part is the largest and most fertile agricultural area in Iceland, and there are several small towns. Tourists are drawn by the two national parks, Þingvellir (Thingvellir) and Skaftafell, which is part of Vatnajökull (Vatnajokull) National Park.
