Kvernufoss is the waterfall with the biggest cave behind in Iceland. It is formed by river Kverna and is 22 m high. The water falling on the ground causes erosion at the foot of the cliff and the rocks here are probably softer and more easily eroded. The result is the huge cavern behind. It is especially beautiful when the rising sun hits the waterfall and creates a rainbow.
Kvernufoss is much less popular than nearby Seljalandsfoss, and so the experience is quite different. You can stay at this calm place for hours without seeing other tourists. Probably because its a little longer walk from the parking lot to the waterfall.
