Dalarnas län (Dalarna County) is located in central Sweden at the border to Norway. Until 1997 it was named Kopparbergs län (literally Copper Mountain County) which gives a hint about the long mining history. Dalarnas is an administrative name, literally the valleys, the county is sparsely populated and has about the size of Belgium. The county has numerous deposits of polymetallic, sulfur based, iron, silver, zink, and copper ores. Some sites are famous for their minerals.
