History

1947 moved 150 meters to avoid the risk of collapse.

Description

Gruvkapellet is not the name of this mining museum, it is descriptive and simply means the Mine Chapel. This building is unique as it is the only remaining church of this type in Sweden, dating back to the 17th century it is preserved in its original state. Because of subsidence the whole building was moved 150 meters to avoid the risk of collapse. The upper floor has been made into a very fine mining museum. Guided tours can be arranged through Garpenberg's Local Heritage Centre.
