Description

Bebravska Pećina (Beaver Cave), also Špilja Bebrava, is a moderately developed show cave. There is a long staircase with stone steps and an iron railing which was built down the huge doline to the cave entrance. The cave has only very basic trails, but some time ago solar-powered LED light was installed. There are ladders at the drops, but mostly you will walk on the natural cave floor, sometimes in the bed of the cave river, so we strongly recommend hiking shoes, sturdy clothes and a lamp. The cave has spectacular speleothems, and unfortunately it was open for some time which generally bears the danger of vandalism. Fortunately it was remote, mostly unknown, and the steep parts difficult to climb, which obviously protected the cave from vandalism.

The cave is now managed by JU Zaštićeni pejzaž „Konjuh” as it is part of the park. They not only installed the light and rearranged the access to the cave and around the cave, they fortunately also gated it. The cave is open on weekends, and after appointment for groups, it is guided by park rangers. They omitted this on their website, but we guess the cave is closed during winter for bat protection, probably it is open only during the holiday season. If you plan to visit, we suggest checking this first by email. It is located far from the next village, accessible only on a single-lane forest road, so you should plan enough time for the hike to the cave. This is not a show cave where you wait at the entrance for the guide, we strongly recommend to check in at the park administration first. Most likely, you will get additional information for the visit.
