History

1993 tomb under the mound discovered.

Description

Храм в Могила Оструша (Temple in the Tomb of Ostrusha) is an underground temple structure with a size of 100 m². The structure was erected in three distinguishable phases. During the first around the middle of the 4th century BC, a monolithic chamber with a burial bed and frescoes on the ceiling was installed. In the second phase, five rooms were added to this central chamber. In the third phase, at the end of the century, a sarcophagus-like grave was built in front of the entrance, without burial in it. All this was still on the surface. Afterwards the whole structure was covered by a mound and thus became underground.

Unfortunately the temple was discovered by grave robbers in the 4th century AD. They not only removed whatever was inside, they also destroyed most of the frescoes, except for the southwest chamber.

The monolithic chamber in the center has impressive dimensions, 2.45 m deep, 3.54 m wide, and 2.36 m high.
