History

Description

The Corner Brook Stream has cut deep into the limestone and exposed a variety of caves.

A waterfall, a cave above a cave, huge caverns and muddy crawls. The upper branch involves some fancy foot work to negotiate the way along the edge of some fairly deep water. This section ends in a 3 m rappel and a cool wade to the exit that faces the Corner Brook Stream.

Warning: Check water levels before entering cave.

Corner Brook Cave is a wild cave which is open on cave trekking trips. The cave is about one kilometer long and tours are individually tailored to the abilities of the participants. Helmets and headlamps are provided, personal gear if availaable is still advisable. This are real caving trips, which require climbing, crawling and stooping. The cave is unfortunately flooded when water in the Corner Brook rises, so safe visits require experienced local guides. Never visit this cave on your own.

There are two operators who offer tours into Corner Brook Cave, Explore Newfoundland and My Newfoundland Adventures. Both operators provide first aid kit, headlamps, helmets, harnesses, and all safety equipment. Coveralls and waterproof rubber boots are rented.
