Description

云峰洞 (Yunfengdong, Wind Peak Cave) is located in the Yunfeng or Wind Peak, hence the name. The huge through cave is located east of Fengcheng city, Guangxi. Follow G357 east and take the first turnoff to the right on X891, the old road which is now replaced by the new one with the tunnels. The cave is higher up, on a hillside, but there are trails to the cave and though. This is not a show cave, and there is no electric light, so a lamp is essential. However, the trail is rather good and easy to walk, so the visit ist just a short hike. Good walking shoes are nevertheless recommended. The cave is quite spacious, only in the middle the passage narrows a little.

The cave has a temporary lake at one point with a diameter of 80 m. It’s easy to see when there is water, and it’s best to avoid it, as the ground is cave clay. If it is dry you should avoid it also, because below the flat surface the clay is still wet, soft and sticky. The cave also has numerous pits, they are the result of nitrate extraction. There were bats in the cave, and where they lived they produced guano. The locals mined this as fertilizer.

This cave is not visible on Google Earth, the actual location which is given on Google, Baidu, Trip and other websites differs greatly. The location we give is our best guess but may be wrong.
