江州天生桥 (Jiāng zhōu tiānshēngqiáo, Jiangzhou Natural Bridge) is name after nearby Jiangzhou Yao Ethnic Township. It is one of the largest natural bridges in China, and quite easy to visit. This time there is not a road across the bridge, this time the road was built along the Jiangzhou River and through the bridge. So we classified it additionally as a cave used as a tunnel.
Legend has it that a long time ago, there was an immortal who came down to earth and often sang with mortals across the river. One day, the weather was not good, with dark clouds, the sky was dark, and the wind was blowing. It was pouring rain, and flash floods broke out, soaking the clothes of the immortal and the mortal, and drowning their singing. The immortal was quick-witted and formed a bridge with a flick of her long sleeves, covering the two people, so the current bridge got its name.
Some say that this bridge and Tian'e Xinxinxianren Bridge are a loving couple. They are so that more people in love can get married and accompany each other, grow old together, and become immortals.
Long ago the Jade Emperor saw the Jiangzhou area with its clear water and beautiful scenery. The spirit of the land must be outstanding, future generations will be rich and prosperous. But the Feng Shui survey revealed that the soil was too thin and the water shallow. He said that it was necessary to build two bridges, which would bring dragon energy to the land. The Jade Emperor heard the report and sent two immortals, father and son, to build the bridges. They agreed to build one bridge each, the son in this place and the father in Fengping. When the bridges were completed they would fire a cannon to inform the Jade Emperor. In the sky the son was very lazy, and so his father expected him to be slow. So he drank and was without any haste, believing that he would be able to complete the project as scheduled. But the son had long missed a meaningful task, so he set to work happily and soon had the bridge built. And when he was finished, he fired the cannon to inform the Jade Emperor. The old man woke up to the sound of the cannon and was surprised to see that the bridge was already finished. Of his own bridge, only the foundations of two pillars stood. And because the second bridge is missing, this bridge is full of dragon energy. The people therefore erected temples at the bridge. And because of the dragon energy, the youth of the area are beautiful, intelligent and hard-working.
