History

Description

沈阳水洞 (Shenyang Shui Dong) is located at the Taizi River in Benxi County. The most famous cave in the area is Benxi Water Cave, but this is also a river cave with a boat ride. However, despite the coloured light, which almost all Chinese show caves have, this cave also has plastic dinosaurs, dragons, and artificial cave walls made of plaster. It seems, that's even for chinese tastes too cheesy. At least the dinosaurs are easy to explain: the Cretaceous limestone layers where the cave formed was deposited during the dinosaur age and contains numerous fossils. The cave is visited on a boat ride which starts at the jetty in front of the cave.

This cave is much less well known the Benxi Water Cave, and it is often mixed up with the latter. At least websites often contain pictures of Benxi and comments which are obviously meant for Benxi Water Cave. The similarity of the names is obviously a problem.
