History

Description

同寿山 (Tóng shòushān, Tongshou Mountain) is the karst tower, but we are talking about the cave. It is sometimes listed as 同壽山水 (Tongshou Mountain Water), but that seems to us to be more of a euphemism than a proper name. We guess the cave actually has no name, and so we use the name of the karst tower where it is located. The cave passage crosses the tower and is the underground route of the 赐福河 (Cì fú hé, Cifu River, Blessed River). It is also named 盘阳河 (pányáng hé, Panyang River) and Poxin River. That’s the same river which flows out of nearby Sanmenhai Cave, and this cave is quite similar.

It is less touristic, here is no visitor center, and the Tongshou Mountain Cave has no trails, but there are boat tours organized by locals. The boats are motor powered plastic boats. The cave is a 1,100 m long passage, which is between 20 and 50 m wide and up to 70 m high. We are not sure if the boats actually cross the mountain, and as far as we know there is no light inside the cave. We understand that the main topics on the tour are of esoteric origin. The oxygen in the cave is negative, the water has minerals, and the air the smell of the trees along the river. And all those things are healthy and increase longevity. So you visit the cave to become immortal.
