History

Description

仙瀑洞 (Xian Pu Dong) is the highest show cave in the Jinhua Beishan karst area and is famous for having the highest underground waterfall of the world. The fact with the highest waterfall is easy to understand, but unfortunately, as you can see in our list Biggest Underground Waterfalls it is not true, just a close second. And probably much more spectacular than the Swiss one.

The other fact though is true but needs some explanations. There are cave systems in all the limestone towers at various heights, but all cave systems always have the cave river in the lowest level. This cave has the highest cave river in the karst area, which actually means that the karst groundwater has its highest elevation in this area. Not exactly a good superlative, but important from the hydrogeological view.

Right behind the entrance the cave has two huge stalagmite, which resemble a dragon and a tiger, so the locals call the cave 龙虎洞 (Lóng hǔ dòng, Dragon Tiger Cave).
