Description

Stará Plynárna (Old Gas Works) is as the name say the building of the gas production facility. In this acetylene gas plant acetylene was produced to supply twelve nearby residential buildings. It was built in a narrow section of the gorge because in the event of an explosion it would not endanger the inhabited houses in the village. And as typical for this era, even industrial buildings had to fulfill basic aesthetic requirements. The house was built of natural stones, has oriels and turrets, and bridge railings made of natural stones. The whole building was built over the river and under a rock face because of the lack of space. The result is so reminiscent of Rivendell or another fantasy building that the picture has become legendary on instagram.

The house was actually used as gas works for only 20 years. Then it was abandoned. Today it is the home to a small hotel and restaurant. With the fantastic location, the 19th century architecture, and the steampunk decorations inside it is quite popular. Its also used as a filming location, it was used for the Korean series Are you human? where Oh Ro-ra (Kim Sung-ryoung) moves to this retreat from South Korea to develop the robots Nam Shin I to III (Seo Kang-joon).
