History

1955 addition of collection from the East-Bohemian Coal Mines.

Description

The Národi Technické Muzeum (National Technical Museum) at Prgue is. like all such museums on earth, dedicated to contemporary technology and its history. An important part of technology is the development of mining techniques. The National Technical Museum has the general introduction into mining technology and its history. There is a collection of Medieval mining tools like pick axes, mallets, iron pieces, sledges, original troughs, tallow lamps, chains, and ladders. The modern mining collection includes lamps, tools and components of mining machines, especially pumping equipment.

The collection concentrates especially on the coal mining history of eastern Bohemia. In 1955 the museum acquired an extensive collection of coal mining equipment from the East-Bohemian Coal Mines. The original size mine model in the cellar is also concentrating on coal mining, with some deviations into ore mining. It was createad also in the 1950s, and contains a large collection of mining machines and equipment.

After inspecting all the old motorbikes, cars, aeroplanes etc why not take a visit to the basement. Here there is a mock-up of a coal mine with guided tours every other hour starting at 11.00, 13.00 and 15.00.
