History

Description

The Cova des Pardals is a secret underground jetty for the local fishers. Probably it was used by pirates and smugglers. However, it is not a tourist site, it is just open without restrictions. A staircase leads down to a small sea cave, most likely massively changed by the owners. Its even possible that the whole cave is artificial. The reasons for such an underground harbour are multiple, and most are not illegal, actually. It is a very good protection for the ships during bad weather, it is probably the easiest way to access the sea from above the cliff. However, the water is rather shallow and the jetty is only suitable for small boats.

The place is located on the southern coast of the island. There is a road to the place and a small parking lot, though it is rather tricky to find the place. We recommend the use of a navi. It is also possible to make a short walk from nearby Son Xoriguer, start at the small beach at the eastern end of the village. It's a 1.5 km walk, less than half an hour, along the cliff.
