Lullinvuori Luola (Lullinvuori Cave) is 32 m long and thus one of the longest caves in Finland. There are rumours it was the second or third longest, but we can tell you that's not the case. Nevertheless, we list all caves longer than 30 m and so this cave is actually on the list
The cave is located on the Muuratsalo island, which is actually a rocky hill in the Kivijärvi Lake. The island has numerous outcrops, strange rock formation, cliffs and small cave, all in a nice forest. The island is crisscrossed by trails, and while it is obviously a popular hiking spot, the caves are not signposted. We guess the best attempt is to follow the gps. Once you found the cave, it's easy to recognize once you are inside. It is quite spacious with a flat floor and a flat ceiling. It is very corridor-like, and even larger persons can walk without stooping. However, there are several crawls, if you want to explore every one of the 32 m you need appropriate clothes.
While this cave is actually one of the larger and easier to visit caves in Finland, it's a little tricky to get there. To reach the island is actually not the problem, there are bridges connecting several islands, so just follow road 6090. The problem is that most of the island is closed for traffic since 2017 and the only legal car park is located at Alvar Aalto Experimental House at Melalammentie 6, 40900 Säynätsalo. From here it is 3 km as the crow flies to the cave, so if you plan a roundtrip you may have to walk between 8 and 10 km, and you should definitely plan a full day.
