The Gorges du Fier is a short piece of the river south of Lovagny, where it forms a deep and narrow gorge. The water of the river Fier starts to cut into an area of harder limestone, forming a gorge wich is just a few meters deep. Various clefts brach and meet again, the result is a labyrinth of limestone towers with a river on the bottom. But soon the gorge becomes deeper and more narrow, numerous branche unite and form a single rivergbed, resembling a cave with a hole in the ceiling. After some time the whole thing goes the other way round, the gorge becomes lower and finally the river flows again tranquil through field and meadows.
The gorge is easy to access from the road bridge across the Fier. A trail along the river offers nice views, we recommend not to leave the trail for saftey reasons. In the deep and narrow parts the trail is built as an elevated bridge along the cliff face of the canyon wall.
