History

Description

Fontaine Pétrifiante de Mizoën is a karst spring with tufa deposits around the spring. The catchment area is the Plateau d'Emparis, located at an altitude of 2,372 meters. Due to its unique microclimate and the great elevation there is a unique vegetation and fauna around the spring. It has been dedicated a Natura 2000 site and is under nature protection. So if you visit the site be careful, take nothing but pictures. The main problem, and probably the reason why it is actually well protected, is its remote location. Thew village Mizoën is high up in a remote valley in the French Alps, and the spring is at least and hour hike from here.
