Description

The Cluzeaux de Saint-Pardoux-de-Mareuil (Caves at Saint-Pardoux-de-Mareuil) were categorized as cliff bottom dwellings on one website. We did not know this term before, so we can only guess it is either a local term or a translation error. However, there are numerous cave openings at the foot of a cliff, probably natural caves which were enlarged, or completely artificial caves dug into the rock by hand. There are several of those caves, and there is a spring named Font Clochette with a so-called Lavoir, which seems to be a huge pool used for washing clothes. The spring with its nice mound was protected with a roof, we guess this was done for the washing women, and is much younger than the rest.
