Halliggye Fogou (Halliggye Cave) is an artificial tunnel from the Iron Age. There are numerous Cornish Iron Age settlements which have such mysterious underground tunnels. They are called fogou, the Cornish-language word for cave. The purpose is unknown, suggestions include refuge, storage chamber, and ritual shrine.
The Halliggye Fogou is located on Trelowarren Estate. Both are maintained by English Heritage, but while the fogou is free, fees are charged for the visit of the estate.
