ჯვრის უღელტეხილის ტრავერტინი (Jvari Pass Travertine) is named after the place where it is located, the Jvari Pass or Cross Pass. It is crossed by the Georgian Military Road, which connects the capital Tbilisi with the russian border. South of the pass a huge skiing center has developed, which is quite popular during winter. North of the pass, at the road through the Bidara valley, a massive deposit of limestone with rimstone pools can be seen. It is the result of a limestone rich karst spring, which deposits the limestone when it looses the capability to keep it dissolved. Such deposits are quite common, but this one is really huge and located right at the road.
