Description

Balneario Las Pozas (Las Pozas Riverpools) are located north of Petén, west of the town of Machaquilá. There is a water park in the town and various possibilities to bathe in the Machaquila River, but this place is special. Often advertised as Petén’s version of Semuc Champey, it is actually a series of Sinter Terraces forming turquoise pools. Around the pools a small water park has developed offering a zip line and other fun, and of course there's a restaurant. There are restrooms, a volleyball net and soccer field. We recommend bringing a towel, a bathing suit, and sun protection. It requires no physical fitness, but you will have problems if you are water shy. It's not hard to find, but if you want to avoid any trouble you can book a day trip from Finca Ixobel, which includes transport from Petén.

Las Pozas is actually not a name, it translates The Pools. As a result there are many other sites with the same or a similar name, so if you search the internet, make sure it's actually this site. The site is owned by Jose and Fernanda who operate it officially as a campground. They also have barbeque sites with sunroofs, so you can also bring something for the grill.
