History

Description

Zelena Špilja (Green Cave) is one of two blue caves on the island. This cave is larger than the other, the entrance is larger and does not require to lie down. And there is a natural entrance high above which allows a ray of sunlight to enter the cave. A shaft of light dances around like a bouncing ball, turning the water greenish gold. Sometimes the local tell the story about green algae which cause the green colour, but that's a myth.

During World War II this cave was sometimes used by small warships to hide.

The boats typically also visit a second cave, Modra Špilja (Blue Cave).
