History


Description

(Bojjannakonda) is a Buddhist site which dates back to the 4th to 9th centuries. The hill is the location of a monastery with rock-cut caves, stupas, and monolithic structures that reflect the flourishing Buddhist culture of the time. The main attraction is the large rock-cut statue of Buddha, surrounded by smaller sculptures depicting various Buddhist deities. Numerous stupas can be seen, some were carved out of a single rock.
